The Mkuze Falls Big Five Private Game Reserve is beautifully situated in the heart of historic Zululand in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is one of only two private Game Reserves in the region where you can view the 'Big 5'.
Besides lion, elephant, white and black rhino, buffalo, hippo, cheetah, crocodile, spotted hyena and giraffe, numerous species of antelope may also be spotted.
The Mkuze Falls Wetlands are an ornithologist's paradise being home to nearly 400 species of birds. For those wishing to explore and seek a little adventure there is fishing available on Pongolapoort Dam, RichardsBay and along the Maputoland coast.
Mkuze Falls is located close to the main Battlefields route including numerous sites of historical importance.
Mkuze Falls Game Lodge consists of two main facility lodges, eight luxurious chalets and one safari lodge. All chalets are built on raised wooden platforms and the spacious veranda of each unit provides fantastic views of the river, the waterfall and the surrounding hills.The Mkuze Falls Tented Lodge is for an adventurous experience in five “Hemingway” style East African Tents, each overlooking the Mkuze River. The tents are built on wooden decks raised on stilts with beautiful views of the lush countryside. The facilities include a lounge, bar, boma and swimming pool. Starlit evenings are enjoyed in the boma and the sounds of the Zulu drumbeat beckon the pure spirit of Africa. The evening air is broken by the call of the Night Jar, the sounds of Zebra in the distance, the unexpected roar of the Lion and the trumpet of the Elephant. The pure sounds of Africa at her best!The Chalets: The characteristic thatched, twin-bedded chalets are spacious and each bed is fitted with its own mosquito net. Each chalet has its own entrance and is equipped with telephone, air conditioning, fan and mini-bar. Luxurious en-suite facilities offer a bath, toilet, secluded outside shower and plunge pool.Each chalet is completely private although panoramic vistas of the river and beyond can be enjoyed from some of the adjoining decks.

Child Policy: No children under the age of twelve years are permitted to stay at the Mkuze Falls Lodge in the Chalets or Safari Suite. Children twelve years and older pay the adult rate. Children of all ages welcome at the Mkuze Falls Tented Lodge in the East-African Safari Tents. Children younger than six years are not permitted on the game drives. Children younger than twelve years may share the tent with parents.Departure time: Rooms must be vacated by 11:00 for the convenience of arriving guests.
A private airstrip and a helipad is available near to the Lodge. Co-ordinates will be submitted on request.
