    Extra information

Bloubergstrand is situated on the West Coast about 30 minutes’ drive from the Cape Town city centre and about 30 minutes from Cape Town's International Airport. Bloubergstrand is the gateway to the seafood Mecca of the Cape West Coast.

Much of Bloubergstrands' attraction lies in its white sandy beaches from which the view of Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town is quite spectacular. Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, can also be seen quite clearly from the beach at Bloubergstrand.

The main beach in Bloubergstrand is called Big Bay. Big Bay is a surfers´, wind surfers’ and kite surfers’ paradise and hosts several national and international competitions every year. Small Bay is a nice family beach and suitable for sunbathers.

    Activities that can be arranged:

    • Quad biking and Sandboarding- Atlantis area.
    • Surf School - Big Bay.
    • Kite surfing lessons - Dolphin Beach.
    • Table view Mountain bike hire – from city centre.

    • Sea kayaking guided trails – Three Anchor Bay, town area.
    • Day tours: Cape winelands, cape point, township tours, seasonal whales and flowers, west coast, shark cage diving, private tours.
    • Specialised tours i.e botanical tours, birding, hiking.
    • Birding – Rietvlei Nature Reserve bird hides, at own leisure.
    • Long walks along a pristine beach at own leisure.
    • Golf at Atlantic Beach Golf Club only 10 min drive away.
    • Trek Fishing - Since the 17th century, trek net fishing has been a tradition along the West Coast of South Africa. At dawn enjoy a fine cappuccino on the balcony at The Sir David while you watch the fisherman at work in Small Bay, right in front of the guest house. A local fisherman in a small colourful rowing departs from the beach with the large net, dropping the net in a semi-circle as he makes his way around the bay. The rest of the fisherman back on the beach start to pull in the net with the catch of the day. Mostly the catch is Harder (Mullet) and this is taken up the coast to Velddrift where the locals heavily salt and hang the fish to dry. These dried fish are called Bokkoms.
