Colesberg

Colesberg is an historic place at the halfway mark between Cape Town and Johannesburg. It was founded in 1829, named after Cape governor Sir G Lowry Cole, and was the original home of several leaders of the Great Trek. The centre of the town lies a few hundred metres south of the N1, so that no traffic noise can be heard. There are some lovely restaurants to be found in the old quarter and the Colesberg -Kemper- Museum in Murray Street is worth a visit.
